What We Do

St. Joseph’s Home for the Aged is an adult home located in Huntington, New York, and operated by the Missionary Sisters of St. Benedict. Although the primary purpose of St. Joseph’s Home for the Aged is to assist the elderly with daily living tasks, the existence of this home extends far beyond this simple fact.

For the Sisters, St. Joseph’s Home for the Aged serves as an extension of their Vision to glorify the Sacred Heart of Jesus and manifest His loving touch. While the Sisters provide assistance with daily living tasks for each of the Home’s residents, the Home itself serves as a spiritual haven for its residents to live their lives on Earth in peace and tranquility while being treated with the utmost dignity and compassion. The familial atmosphere developed by the Missionary Sisters of St. Benedict is the reason residents regard St. Joseph’s Home for the Aged as a place that they can truly call ‘home.’ Furthermore, both residents and their families can rest assured that each resident is wholeheartedly treated in the most respectful manner—not just because they should be, but because it is the Missionary Sisters of St. Benedict’s Mission to ensure that each resident is treated as an invaluable member of the Body of Christ.

Provide a religious and spiritual haven for its residents to live their lives on Earth in peace and tranquility while being treated with the utmost dignity and compassion by fellow followers of the Catholic faith.

Our home is licensed by the New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) as an adult home, which is based on a social model of care rather than a medical model. We strive to be able to fulfill the needs of our residents in a familiar and loving environment; therefore, many services are provided in-house. In accordance with regulation and as outlined in the admission agreement, services provided at our home include:

  • QUALITY CARE – Quality care deliverers who are determined to be there when our residents desire us most.

  • AN EYE FOR EXCELLENCE – Focused and discerning to be wise stewards of the souls within our residence.

  • RELAXING AND RECREATIONAL – Therapeutic procedures, daily activities, and special events to develop the physicality of our residents.

Direction and some assistance with activities of daily living (e.g., grooming, dressing, bathing, toileting, eating) and instrumental activities of daily living (e.g., housekeeping, laundry) provided by Sisters and staff trained as resident care aides, to the extent that NYSDOH regulation permits an adult home to provide.

Sisters, qualified as Case Managers by the New York State Department of Health, analyze the social, emotional, and mental needs of each our residents to ascertain the best way to fulfill the specific needs.

The Activity Program includes individual and group activities that are designed to promote each resident’s feeling of purpose and overall well-being. We are blessed to have loyal volunteers who have truly enhanced our program, often volunteering their time and resources to nurture the residents experience at our home.

Three times per day, the residents meet in our dining room to eat meals planned by food service staff and approved by our contracted Registered Dietitian. The Sisters who work on our food service staff truly enjoy preparing these meals because it enhances the familial atmosphere of St. Josephs Home. On occasion, and weather permitting, meals are served in the patio gazebo, which overlooks our tranquil gardens that are maintained by the Sisters, to further enhance the experience for our residents.

Sisters are on-site and on-call twenty-four hours a day.

If anyone speaks, they should do so as one who speaks the very words of God. If anyone serves, they should do so with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To him be the glory and the power for ever and ever. Amen. – 1 Peter 4:11
